Dr. Michael Geib, double bassist and pedagogue, joined the faculty at the University of Central Oklahoma School of Music in 2010. He has also taught at Florida State University, Oklahoma Christian University, Edmond North High School, and the Quartz Mountain Music Festival. He is committed to teaching bassists to be versed in all types of music, with his doctoral treatise focusing on teaching improvisation to orchestral double bass players. His principal teachers have included Melanie Punter, Rodney Jordan, Ian Bracchitta, and Delbert Felix.

As a bassist, Dr. Geib has performed in professional ensembles in Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. Internationally, he has performed in festivals and tours in Germany, Mexico, and the United Kingdom . He has performed with many notable musicians, including Benny Golson, Kenny Garrett, Dave Douglas, Tom Wopat, 2CELLOS, Il Divo, Linda Purl, and Kelli O’Hara. He is an active recording artist, having played on multiple Naxos productions and various film scores, including Te Ata and What Josiah Saw. He is committed to performing new works, have played in the world premieres productions i.d. (2010), Flipside: The Patti Page Story (2011), Bernice Bobs Her Hair (2015), Ascription (2015), and Mann… and Wife (2016). Dr. Geib is a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians, the American String Teachers Association, and the International Society of Bassists.

Dr. Geib currently lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he maintains an active performing career with the Painted Sky Opera, the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, the Brisch Center for Historical Performance, the Enid Symphony Orchestra, the Claire Piersol Band, the 5th Street Jazz Collective/Red River Ramblers, and the Colorado Mahlerfest Orchestra. Dr. Geib also teaches privately through Geib Musik.
